Review Holden Colorado Ure and Colorado 7
With a slew of new or revised one-ton routes here and on the go, Holden has promptly rolled out upgrades for its light commercial twins, the Colorado and Colorado 7 SUV.
Holden’s revamp is so light, soothing that you really can’t tell any difference from the two from the outside. The boofy-like face is still present on both the car and the SUV, the same rear end but with a new color or two and a host of new accessories. Both cars are not beautiful.
COMPLETED
All operations are local refinement and calibration for several systems and components. The Colorado LTZ mu gets the most treatment but all models have thicker firewall buffers (the bumper between the engine and the passenger compartment) to limit engine noise and the time spent in wind tunnels. Monash University to reduce noise on both vehicles. They even tightened up some dashboard gaps in quieter driving duties.
Tweaks have been made to the LTZonne’s suspension with some softening spring ratios and stiffening the damper and stabilizer bar ratios. The other models are not much due to the nature of their work. Efficiency in the LTZ is comfort for its passengers. It now targets so-called “lifestyle” buyers as well as deals and “bogans making money”.
INSIDE
Although the interior is still mostly “tupperware” gray hard plastic, efforts have been made to improve its look with some soft touch panels where your body touches the interior. The piano black color also appears along with the black carpet. Nothing escapes the cheap structure of the interior – immediately apparent when you open the loose center console lid. A few excessive shakes on the rough road.
Leather is optional on the top of the range, standard on top of the range 7.
RESEARCH
Holden went to Colorado and seven existing car owners to figure out where to improve and pay attention to the vehicle on several fronts. There’s still no reach adjustment and sought-after driver assistance features, fitted or available, are very thin on the ground in any model.
Things like the satnav by “Bringo” app seem incomplete as it tends to drop out of school. Also on the front side, the infotainment system MyLink can only run one phone at a time….
ENGINE
Retained are the powerful 147kW / 440Nm (manual), 500Nm (automatic) 2.8-liter engine, the four-cylinder turbo diesel and the six-speed manual / automatic transmission. Auto adds $ 2200 to the boot price tag at $ 28,390 for the 2WD bogger. Wan is not four people in Colorado?
The drivetrain is good and it’s almost unstoppable on offroad …
That’s $ 35,490 starting, plus $ 2200 for the automatic transmission, plus on-road. The SUV 7 starts at $ 47,490. Towing capacity is said to be 3.5 tons in cars, 3.0 tons in cars 7. One wonders what the Colorado and the 7 are punishable?
The legacy product line includes DX, LS, LT and LTZ in incremental equipment levels. The 7 SUVs are LT and LTZ. All have the same powertrain and base except for the coil-spring rear suspension on gear 7.
It sits on a terraced chassis with dual wishbone front suspension and leaf springs (on top) in the rear. The 4×4 system is quickly selectable and offers high and low range from a single dial on the center stack. Sequential gear selection is provided in automatic from the selector bar on a parallel port.
CONTROL
This is a field test and we must say, the Colorado and the 7 SUVs are quite complete on the off-road and on the road. Strong engine performance and minimal vibration penetrate the cabin. It also seems relatively economical although we could not determine the exact consumption in our test program.
The automatic transmission is smooth and works well but the ESC stability control system can have problems in the sand unless you turn it off completely by pressing a button for about 10 seconds. Unwanted heavy brake application tends to be a bit annoying when you are driving on the beach.
The capacity to load in the uterus is about a ton – depending on the vehicle model, and in practical terms, the Colorado and the 7 are acceptable with a large amount of handy things like cup holders and storage options. The rear windows of the 7 are very small, and the passenger room is good.
