Review Mercedes-Benz C200

It’s no surprise that Benz is doing very well in this country and elsewhere with new models like the latest C-Class in its stable. Looking like a miniaturized S-Class, the new C is packed with all the driving and luxury assist technology from the more established Benz models and in fact it’s bigger than ever to blur the line. gender between C, E and S-Class vehicles.

Do you really need that E-Class? Probably not now. We drove the entry-level C200 BlueEfficiency last week, and it beats us out entirely as a car you could happily own for at least the next few years, maybe much longer.

PRICE

It only costs $ 61k but offers a lot of performance, luxury, safety, and technology to talk about outstanding styling inside and out.

Some thought it was a bit “blingy” on the outside but we liked the bright work. Bland is bad. The interior is modern, functional, dominated by sport wheels, stylish dash and a large tablet-style information / control screen. An additional large dial controller is located on the center console between the front seats. Like Volvo, the C-Class features a hypoallergenic interior that will help allergy sufferers have no end.

KITS

Our drive car comes with 18-inch alloys, seven-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, Garmin Map Pilot satnav, comprehensive digital connectivity including phone and Bluetooth audio (auto copper 3-mode ambient lighting, brake power park, keyless start, active parking assist and Agility Selection with five modes. That’s in addition to all the usual equipment you’d expect in the C-Class like climate control, cruise, leather, and more.

The safety kit (five stars) is very generous and includes driver assistance features like Collision Prevention Assist +, Blind Spot Assist and a reversing camera. More available.

ENGINE

Power comes from a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with turbocharging, direct fuel injection and variable valve timing. It is rated at 135kW / 300Nm but believe these relatively conservative numbers when you move it on the road.

The economical stop / start feature helps the C200 reach 6.0 liters / 100km on the premium unleaded car despite its 1465kg weight. The C-Class has an EU6 emission rating. Benz has used aluminum extensively in the new C-Class and it is also judged on its weight.

Feel alive on the road and ride a beautiful horse no matter which mode you choose on Agility Select.

RIDE THE BYCICLE

This is supported by a new suspension with four links one-side at the front and one multi-link at the rear. Nothing is deviated or affected by whatever happens to the other wheels. The 7-Gtronic gearbox is an impressive unit offering quick and smooth shifts in the range.

Drive to the rear wheel – remember. It’s a five-seater sedan with a decent-sized trunk and plenty of room in the cabin.

ON THE ROAD

Our driving experience is good. The car gives strong acceleration over a wide range, despite its modest capacity. It can smooth out roughest roads and back up like a sports sedan if needed. Minimal noise penetrates the cabin and the C200 is an attractive and responsive vehicle in all driving applications.
